Handgun Lesson Plan: Engaging a Moving Target with a MotoShot Robot Target.

Objective:
To develop and improve students’ skills in accurately engaging moving targets with a handgun and the MotoShot Robot, focusing on safety, technique, and precision.

Duration:
2 hours

1. Introduction (10 minutes)
Safety Briefing:

  • Importance of muzzle awareness, trigger discipline, and proper handling.
  • Clear explanation of range rules and emergency procedures.

Overview:

  • Objectives of the lesson.
  • Explanation of the benefits of practicing with the Motoshot Robot.

2. Warm-Up Drills (20 minutes)

  • Dry Fire Practice:
  • Drawing from the holster and acquiring a sight picture.
  • Practicing smooth trigger pull without live ammunition.
  • Static Target Shooting:
  • 10 rounds at a static target to warm up and check accuracy.

3. Moving Target Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Target Mechanism Explanation:
  • Show and explain how the MotoShot Robot target system operates.
  • Discuss different types of moving targets (linear, lateral, zigzag).
  • Key Techniques:
  • Lead time: Aiming ahead of the target.
  • Tracking the target smoothly with the sights.
  • Maintaining proper stance and grip.

4. Dry Fire with Moving Targets (15 minutes)

  • Simulated Moving Target Practice:
  • Using a MotoShot Robot target system without live ammo, have students practice tracking and dry firing at the target.

5. Live Fire with Moving Targets (1 hour)

  • Initial Engagement:
  • Students engage a slow-moving MotoShot Robot at close range (7 yards) with 10 rounds.
  • Emphasis on accuracy and proper lead time.
  • Increased Difficulty:
  • Gradually increase Robot speed and distance (10-15 yards).
  • Have students fire in short controlled bursts of 5 rounds.
    -Varied Patterns
  • Introduce the different Robot movement patterns (e.g., zigzag, random stops).
  • Challenge students to adjust their aim and timing accordingly.

6. Analysis and Feedback (15 minutes)

  • Review Performance:
  • Discuss common issues observed during the session (e.g., under/over leading the target).
  • Provide personalized feedback and tips for improvement.
  • Group Discussion:
  • Encourage students to share their experiences and challenges.
  • Discuss strategies for continued practice and improvement.

7. Cool Down and Wrap-Up (10 minutes)

  • Cool Down Drills:
  • Slow, deliberate shots at static targets to reinforce accuracy and control.
  • Final Safety Check:
  • Ensure all firearms are unloaded and stored safely.

  • Recap key lessons learned.
  • Encourage students to practice regularly and consider further training sessions.
